Valentine's with Erin

Erin wanted steak and potatoes for dinner on the 14th, so that's what we made.
First we had some veggies and hummus. We were originally going to save the sugar snaps that you see for the dinner part, but we were too hungry. Erin ate most of the veggies while I was distracted in the kitchen. I had my share and they were tasty. Nothing like fresh organic veggies.

I selected a lovely pair of beef tenderloin filets, rubbed them with olive oil, salt and pepper and put them on the grill.

Meanwhile, Erin boiled potatoes, then mashed them with (I think-I'll have to ask her later) butter, garlic, heavy cream and more s&p. Delish. Then I remembered I had bought some baby bellas to make a little sauce with our wine for the steaks. So I heated up some butter and sauteed the mushrooms with some garlic, salt and pepper. Then I got the pan nice and hot and added some wine. I threw in some ground ginger and continued cooking it down, letting the 'shrooms soak up lots of deliciosity and adding more wine, a little bit at a time. At last, the steaks were ready and we were way beyond ready to get down.

Erin made a beautiful apple pie earlier in the day, but we were just too stuffed to have dessert, so we planned to have it later that night. That didn't work out either, but let me tell you, pie for breakfast is a wonderful thing, especially with some delicious homestead creamery milk.
